MADE BY MAX - review

Línea, color, simpleza. Estos son los elementos visuales que caracterizan la obra de Max Estes, ilustrador y caricaturista de Milwaukee.

Encontré a este fantástico artista mientras husmeaba un poco por Etsy.com, y me sentí avasallada por sus increíbles creaciones. Inmediatamente me vinieron a la mente artistas como Keith Haring, Asner Jorn, del Grupo Cobra de fines de los 40, y reminiscencias del autor argentino Liniers.

Su cosmos de originales los divide en 3 categorías, por llamarlo de alguna manera.

Por un lado está la de los ORIGINALES: estas son piezas realizadas en placas de madera y pintadas con colores acrílicos. Presentan colores planos, en general primarios o neutros. A algunos les agrega texturas con la misma pintura y así logra que sean más vibrantes e interesantes. Estos personajes en madera tienen expresiones peculiares y dan la sensación de ocultar.

Luego están los PRINTS: estas, como su nombre lo indica, son impresiones muy originales y llenas de color, líneas curvas y movimiento. Bien simples y sintéticos son los diseños de estas impresiones, pero no faltos de significado e impacto.

Por último, pero para nada menos importante, se encuentran las GRAPHIC NOVELS:

Max, no sólo es un gran ilustrador, sino que lo complementa perfectamente con el humor y la escritura haciendo estas geniales novelas gráficas, como él llama a creaciones como “Coffee and Donuts-A Junkyard Cats Comic”.

Sólo me queda por agregar que me pareció un artista muy divertido, irónico en ciertos aspectos y sobre todo con un manejo de la síntesis de las formas que es digno de admiración.

Line, color and simplicity. These are the visual elements that distinguish Max Estes art work, as an illustrator and caricaturist from Milwaukee.

I found this fantastic artist while i looked over Etsy.com, and I felt subdue to this incredible creations. Inmediately they remind me of Keith Haring, Asner Jorn, from COBRA group from the 40s, and reminiscences of the argentinian author called Liniers.

His cosmos of originals is divided into 3 cathegories.

In one hand “ORIGINALS”: these art works are made on pieces of wood and painted with acrylics. They have plain colors, primary colors or neutral in general. Some of them are decorated with textures, which make this paintings more vibrating and interesting. This characters in wood have weird expresions, and they seem to be hiding something.

Then the “PRINTS”: these are very original prints full of color, curve lines and motion. So simple and synthetic are these designs, but dont lack of meaning and impact.

Last, but of course not less important, we have the “GRAPHIC NOVELS”:

Max is not only a great illustrator but,he complements it perfectly with humor and writing, making such awesome graphic novels, as he call creations like “Coffee and Donuts-A Junkyard Cats Comic”.

I only have to add that he is a funny artist, sometimes a bit ironic, but always great in synthesicing the shapes.
